CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE CA Not Highest Taxed 10-11-07
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The Tax Foundation released its 2008 State Business Tax Climate Index. The Index ranks how ‘business friendly’ the individual state tax systems are to business and industry.
The Index ranks states based on the taxes that matter most to businesses and business investment: corporate tax, individual income tax, sales tax, unemployment tax and property tax. The states are scored on these taxes, and the scores are weighted based on the relative importance or impact of the tax to a business.
While South Dakota is ranked the best, California is fortunately not ranked as the worst. That honor goes to Rhode Island followed by New Jersey then New York. California is number 47 on the list.
The Index has been published yearly by the Tax Foundation since 2003.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
